Breakdown of the Vinyasa
Fri, Jul 28, 2017 at 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
In every Vinyasa yoga class you’ll invariably encounter a sequence of four postures – downward-facing dog, plank, chaturanga (or low plank), upward-facing dog, with a transition back to down dog – known as a vinyasa. Have you ever felt like you’re fumbling through this? Does it seem like everyone in the class knows what they’re doing and you’ve missed the memo? Maybe you get it but your wrists and shoulders ache? Maybe you just want to “perfect” it?
Here’s your chance! Join Jordann Ogle, RYT, “Breakdown of the Vinyasa”. We will focus on the four main poses in the vinyasa – downward-facing dog, plank, chaturanga and upward-facing dog; modifications that can be used to make each posture safe, comfortable and accessible to everyone (example: Tight hamstrings? Bend your knees in down dog!); and ujjai breathing, the pranayama (breath work) associated with vinyasa yoga. Perfect for beginners or more advanced yogis seeking to fine-tune their alignment and skills!
Date: Friday, July 28 Time: 6:30-8:30pm Where: Chestnut Hill Studio Investment: $25 in advance or $35 at the door
Headstand and Shoulderstand Workshop
Fri, Aug 11, 2017 at 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Sirsasana (headstand), known as the King of Asanas, improves concentration and awareness, is good for the heart and keeps the body strong!
Sarvangasana (shoulderstand), known as the Queen of Asanas, promotes good blood circulation, calms the nerves, can decrease depression and anxiety symptoms, and improves the immune system.
Yoga teaches us that stepping outside of our comfort zone is exactly what we need to grow and develop, on and off of our mats. What better way to step outside your comfort zone than changing your perspective on life by getting upside-down?
In this workshop we will explore important strengthening exercises to support the shoulders and core as well as the proper alignment techniques to build a safe and supported headstand and shoulderstand. You will learn how to use props to support your inversion practice, and you'll be given the opportunity to explore more advanced variations if you wish.
Yoga for Recovery
Sat, Sep 9, 2017 at 12:00 pm - 6:30 pm
This workshop will illuminate the ways in which Ayurveda & Yoga breathe life into the practical spirituality of the 12 steps and recovery from addiction.
We will explore the foundational concepts of Ayurveda (such as dosha, gunas, tattvas and Indian Philosophy) and how these tools apply to recovery.
According to Ayurveda, we have all that we need to live our fullest, most authentic life. Dis-ease arises from misplacement and a shift away from center. Just as the 12 steps offers practical tools to live a life free from active addiction, Ayurveda offers tools to work with our true nature; bringing us back to center.
Combining the ancient sciences of Ayurveda & Yoga with the 12 Steps of Recovery forges a path to bring our entire being back to center, so that we can discover our heart's desire and learn to live with purpose.
This series is appropriate for:
-professionals in the addiction treatment field who wish gain knowledge of a holistic lifestyle & spiritual path for clients.
-yogis looking to deepen their understanding of Ayurveda and the 12 steps
-people recovering from addiction or affected by the addiction of another seeking a holistic lifestyle.
